Metformin is used for treating type 2 diabetes.
Metformin breast cancer trial canada, is now the best-designed clinical trial designed to study the effectiveness of a drug. Dr Peter C. Smith, a researcher from Imperial College London explains that in the study, investigators looked at effects of four different drugs on patients taking tamoxifen for breast cancer. They concluded that the breast cancer drug is "the only treatment with the potential to substantially and safely extend average long-term survival."
The study of effectiveness these drugs have also shown that the two drugs (ra-isomer), anastrozole and rosuvastatin, were more effective than a drug called rosuvastatin, while tamoxifen had the lowest effectiveness.
When the scientists started to look see whether the anti-biotic drugs could help women, they discovered that these antibiotics acted as antioxidants in the body which can protect cells from being damaged or killed out of the blue after they were exposed to radiation.
The researchers found that these drugs were also able to stop the formation of a protein that causes cell death.
These scientists have now made a new discovery when they investigated whether these drugs could stop the cancer spreading. When they examined the DNA of breast cancer cells in the laboratory, they found a particular DNA sequence which was mutated when the drug tamoxifen was administered to the patients in study. This meant that these patients had more resistant cells within the body. These scientists have concluded that the anti-biotic drugs, have potential to help patients with early breast cancer die at a younger age.
